award-winning designShintaro Akatsu School of Design

The elements of the Shintaro Akatsu School of Design, (SASD) brand were thoughtfully crafted, in collaboration with Eric Strolh, to reflect the unique qualities of the school’s namesake, its location and its vibrant student body. The SASD (pronounced SAS-dee) brand is open, creative and inviting — always presenting an optimistic feeling both visually and conceptually.

The wordmark, which features a sideways “D” creating a capital “A,” evokes the distinctive architecture of the dome adjacent to the SASD building. This use of an object for an alternate purpose is expressed in the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi.
